Look to the Language of Sales Letters

Everyday, my email is crammed with lots of ‘amazing” turn-key home based business opportunities promising you incredible earnings, well into six figures.  And, everyday I weed through those opportunities looking for legitimate businesses.  If you pay attention to the sales letters that you receive you will see a pattern of vocabulary that is meant to trigger the emotional buying triggers within you.  However, it is this same language that should be carefully evaluated against important criteria such as the product guarantees, the business disclaimer, and the customer and technical service levels.  What good is for you to spend lots of money if in the end you have no honored product guarantees, no legal rights, and no service?  Begging to return a product or asking for a refund should not become the nightmare many of you report to me as your experience of these golden opportunities to wealth.

Evaluate carefully the use of words such as turn-key.  That words implies that the business is ready to run, and that no or minimal work is required on your part to generate the bottom line.  I have often seen this word used to describe software that you must still install, learn and work with to understand the service or product you are providing.  It may refer to software for web design that is the yet not built website you purchased as part of the turn-key offering or marketing software.  You are doing more than turning a key here.

Be very aware of the word could.  You could earn up to 1k to 10k monthly.  What is the average earning for someone working the business and what tools are they using to get there?  Again, if you can’t talk to other people in the business without a 3rd party on the line, I would think twice about joining.  You are often set up to say yes, without thinking the opportunity through. 

The words immediate and get rich quick when applied to generating wealth should be read with extreme caution.  I have never seen immediate money nor has anyone I know gotten rich quick.  Many have done well in a fairly short timespan, but most paid long and hard dues in the trenches to grow their client base and earn the respect of staying power.

I have used it myself, so I am as guilty as the next marketer, but I am admitting here that the word secret must be subjected to your objective scrutiny.  There are no secrets.  The information may be new or unknown to you, but it is not secret.   We all want to be privy to secrets, but there are none for you to know.  With good help or with good resources you can stay on top what is happening on the Internet.  This is not to say that there may not be a new twist on an old idea, but I have read thousands of marketers and again, they are all saying pretty much the same thing.  Some say it better than others and are more inclusive of examples, but much is the application of old offline techniques set to the technology of the Internet.  Yes, there will be innovative software that harnesses the rules of the web, but they aren’t secrets.  You just have to know what software you need for your business.

Finally, the words guarantee and disclaimer should be examined with great care.  These two words are often found at the end of the sales letter in a font size so small you will barely see it. Stop immediately and click on those links.  You need to print out all of this information and read it carefully.  Know your legal rights as a purchaser of this business opportunity.  Ask an objective third party to look them over prior to signing anything or parting with any of your money.  If you ever have unhappy customers or want out of this business, you will be very glad to know what you are up against.

Finally, the words act now means that you need to think about it 24-48 hours and do your homework.  If it is a great opportunity, the people offering it to you will respect your need to research, ask questions, and think it through.  Don’t commit to any opportunity you can’t get passionate about or that is in an area where you have no expertise.  MLM opportunities crop up everyday and you will find the one right for you without hassle, pressure, or anxiety.  And, if you want to own your own business, talk to me about information brokering.  Both are paths to operating a home based business.
